The Music Tag

I’ve been meaning to do a music-related tag for so many years now, and I just kept getting sidetracked with bookish and writing posts. However, today I’m finally going to do it so you can get to know my music taste a little bit better.

*Songs that have explicit lyrics will be marked with an asterisk.

Rules

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their post. (I first saw this tag on Sara Letourneau’s blog)
  2. Answer the fourteen questions listed in this post.
  3. For any questions where you choose to share YouTube videos, try to stick to one (1) embedded video to avoid overwhelming readers. Feel free to add links to additional videos directly in the text.
  4. Nominate at least three (3) bloggers for this tag.

#1: Do you like listening to music?

I adore listening to music. Before I was a writer, I actually wanted to pursue music as a career. I obviously changed my mind, but music has – and always will be – a core part of who I am as a person.

#2: What song(s) have you been listening to lately?

I schedule my posts in advance, but what I was listening to these songs a lot around the beginning of November:

#3: What is your favorite genre of music?

My favorite genres of music are pop, Christian, soundtracks, and instrumental/movie scores. These are the genres I listen to the most and that I’m almost always down for in a given moment.

#4: What is your favorite song?

I have many favorite songs and I always refuse to narrow it down to just one, so you get another list:

#5: What is your favorite instrument?

I love so many different instruments, but the piano will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s the instrument I play best, and I’m quite fond of it. If I get to choose a second favorite instrument, then I’m choosing the violin, hands down.

#6: Do you play an instrument? If not, what instrument would you play if you could?

I tried to learn the flute as a kid, and was okay at it. Around that time, my older sister took piano lessons, and I ultimately switched to piano, too. I also played handbells throughout middle school and high school.

#7: What kind of radio do you prefer to listen to?

I usually listen to a variety, depending on what channels are playing ads. My presets are a mix of Christian, pop, and classic rock.

#8: What kind of apps or PC programs do you use for listening to music?

I use Amazon Music primarily, but I actually like making playlists on Spotify way better, so I use both. I also have the K-Love app, which I don’t use very often, but I like having it anyway. Occasionally I’ll use YouTube to listen to some songs, but usually it’s just for the ones that aren’t on another streaming platform.

#9: Do you like making music? Which software do you use for composing / creating music?

I’ve never actually mixed or recorded music (outside of terrible voice memos), but I did write a little bit of music for a college class once. I used Musescore to write my composition because it’s free and allows you to listen to your composition.

#10: Are there songs that remind you of people you know?

There are songs that remind me of specific people.

#11: Are there songs that make you think of a color?

Yes, specifically the following:

#12: Are there songs that evoke a particular emotion in you?

I have a lot of songs that make me really nostalgic for those days when I was younger and didn’t have to worry about being a grownup. They’re very sentimental songs that I’ll play whenever I’m missing my childhood or when it feels like life is going a little too fast.

#13: What two genres of music are your least favorites? Why?

Rap and screamo. I dislike rap because it’s usually very inappropriate in the content and language used. I dislike screamo because I associate it with some not-so-great memories.

#14: What songs would make up the OST (original soundtrack) of your life?

Ooh, this is such a hard question because my soundtrack has definitely changed throughout my life, so this might be kind of a long list of songs, but hey, it’s my blog, so buckle in and let’s get started.

Let’s Talk!

I’m not tagging anyone, but feel free to steal (just mention that you’re stealing from Bree Dawn). What are some of your favorite songs? Which songs would be part of your life soundtrack? Let’s talk all things music in the comments!

  1. AHHHH these are such good songs! I love all the Taylor Swift rep, heehee 😉 I would’ve expected nothing less. I especially love the soundtrack of your life! I love how we all have that one very early Britt Nicole song that defines on specific moment of life (mine was Don’t Worry Now from the same album, of all things).

    Loved this tag!

    1. Yes, I’ve been very obsessed with Taylor’s songs lately, so that’s been super fun. And I definitely agree. Britt Nicole is like the staple of a Christian girl’s teenage years, so I think your analysis is very accurate, lol. <333
