<Never Have I Ever>

…started a novel that I didn’t finish.

*facepalms*

All. The. Time.

I don’t know why I do this, but alas, it is my curse to start projects and then abandon them for ages.

…written a story completely by hand.

I believe that I did this one time back in middle school. I had to write a story for a class and it was probably the most unrealistic thing I’ve ever thought/written…but it was kinda cute and sweet and all about sibling relationships. *sighs*

But yeah, I’d never do this again because handwriting stories is excruciating.

…changed tenses midway through a story.

Yep, I do this so often I should probably get some help. I’m terrible at staying in past tense since present tense is my general default. So if I’m collaborating with friends and we’re writing in past tense, I’m pretty much guaranteed to switch and get myself confused.

…not researched anything before starting a story.

If it’s a short story, yes. But if it’s a bigger, longer story like my novels or my novella, I usually do a little research about something or other before I start writing.

…changed my protagonist’s name halfway through a draft.

I…can’t recall having done this. I usually have my characters names figured out before I start writing. So this isn’t much of an issue cause if I’m going to change their name, it’s usually between drafts when I’m editing.

…written a story in a month or less.

I wrote my fairytale retelling in a little OVER a month. But yeah, technically this one is a no.

…fallen asleep while writing

…I have not. *shrugs*

…corrected someone’s grammar IRL/online?

I do this to my friends all the time, both in real life and online. But if it’s a stranger and I’m NOT in a mood, then no, I probably won’t correct them.

…yelled in all caps at myself in the middle of my novel.

I don’t understand why people do this??? Like, I’ve heard so many writers talk about how the majority of their first draft is just them yelling at themselves because doing NaNo was a horrible idea. But I’ve…never done this myself. I just don’t see the point in boosting your word count with words that don’t have anything to do with the story itself.

…used “I’m writing” as an excuse.

Ha! If I tried to pull this off my family would so not even come close to accepting this. They’re always pretty chill about me taking some time to write, but if I used it as an excuse they’d probably roll their eyes and then repeat their request until I got up to do it. Lol.

…killed a character that was based on someone I know in real life.

Can’t say that I haven’t considered it…but no, I’ve never actually done it.

Yet.

…used pop culture references in a story.

YES YES YES YES YES.

Mostly it’s band references, but yeah. Definitely love doing this.

…written between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

I know that I’ve written some poetry after 1…but it wasn’t for very long, nor was it probably any good.

…drank an entire pot of coffee while writing.

Nope, not much of a crazy coffee drinker. Though I do love the aesthetic and smell and taste if it’s not super bitter…*wanders off *

…written down dreams to use in potential novels.

Is this not normal? Cause I do this literally at least once or twice a week (if I’m having decent dreams).

…published an unedited story on the internet/blog/Wattpad.

Not unless you count the short story I wrote a couple weeks ago. But even that was slightly edited.

…procrastinated homework because I wanted to write.

I’m honestly not even ashamed to admit that I do this all the freaking time.

…typed so long that my wrists hurt.

I feel like this makes me a terrible writer person..but no?

…spilled a drink on my laptop while writing.

My mom taught me to be SUPER careful with drinks around any sort of electronics. So thankfully this one is also a no.

…forgotten to save my work/draft

I do this with my blog posts all the time. But most of my novel stuff saves automatically, so it’s not really an issue.

…finished a novel.

I haven’t ever finished a full-length novel, but I did finish a short novella.

…laughed like an evil villain while writing a scene.

Nah, I’m not really a super expressive person, so this wouldn’t really be my thing. Plus it might worry the people I live with…

…cried while writing a scene.

*cries softly in the distance* I cry over everything so this isn’t really a huge shock. But it definitely helps me measure the emotion of a scene based on whether or not I cried.

…created maps of my fictional worlds.

I’m not a fantasy writer, so I don’t usually have much reason to make maps. But I do need to block out a general sketch for my dystopian, rebellion novel.

…researched something shady for a novel.

Oh, definitely. I think the creepiest was actually one of the first things I ever researched. I literally typed “What does death smell like?” into that poor, Google search engine and…well, I did find an answer. But I still can’t help but wonder if it worried my parents at the time. *laughs*

  1. Ooooh, this tag is such a cool idea!

“I don’t know why I do this, but alas, it is my curse to start projects and then abandon them for ages.” << uHM ME TOO!! XD Haha, I use the "I'm writing" excuse so much…when most of the time I'm actually being sucked down a Pinterest rabbit hole instead of writing. *hides*

    1. Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry that it’s taken me over a year to see and respond to your comment! It must have gotten lost among the chaos of the pingbacks. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post and that I’m not the only one who writes down dreams for potential stories. ❤
