It might be a surprise to some of you that I’m a Dramione girl. I wasn’t always a fan of this ship. However, eventually I realized that I really love the idea of Draco redeeming himself and turning away from the prejudice views of his family + Hermione learning how to love someone who doesn’t even love himself. They’re both such complex characters, and it’s really cool to see how writers have given them the space to grow in ways we never see in the series.
If you hate Dramione with all of your heart, this probably isn’t the post for you and that’s okay. But for those of you who are intrigued by Dramione or want to start reading some fanfic with them, I hope this post brings you some joy and exciting new recommendations.
The Watergaw by ectoheart and smokybaltic

In the middle of a war, Hermione is stuck in the middle of nowhere.
With Draco Malfoy.
Without her friends, her magic, or her books, she has only her wits to rely on to survive her plight- to say nothing of her company. They’ve declared a truce, but somehow Draco keeps slipping past all her defences.
Stranded together in the wilderness, Hermione and Draco are in for cold nights, endless snark, bad wine, and some interesting scars.
Word Count: 39,811 (10 chapters).
Content Warnings: Alcohol, blood, cursing, injury/injury detail, medical content, physical abuse, sexual content, and torture.
Spice Modification: There is a sexual scene in chapter 7. To skip, stop at this line, “If the universe wouldn’t give her any peace, she’d steal this sliver of it from the place and the person she was least supposed to find it in.” You’re safe to start reading again after the scene break (indicated by a long line in the middle of the page).
My Favorite Quote: “Draco had seen enough humanity in her to risk everything to save her, but she had failed to see enough of it in him to even imagine he’d care.”
Recommended for Fans of: Slow-burn romance, academic-rivals-to-lovers, hurt/comfort, and banter.
Poet by OneEqualTemper

At a certain point last year, she never thought she’d be here again, back at Hogwarts to continue her education. She never thought she’d struggle through nightmares and suffer through tremors. She certainly never thought she’d find herself friendly with Draco Malfoy. And never in a million years had she thought she’d develop feelings.
Word Count: 112,094 (32 chapters).
Content Warnings: Alcohol, classism, grief, injury/injury detail, medical content, medical trauma, panic attacks/disorders, sexual content, torture, and war.
Spice Modifications: I remember a couple of sexual scenes. One of them was a shower scene (they always have to make these awkward) and the other was an actual sex scene (I think). They were both later in the story, but I can’t remember exactly where.
My Favorite Quote: “We’re so lucky that we get to make these choices now, including you.”
Recommended for Fans of: Tennyson, friends-to-lovers, learning how to heal, Soft Draco, and post-war fics.
Until the Ink Runs Dry by AccioMjolnir
(This one is only available to AO3 users, so you’ll need to make an account to read it.)

Granger,
Your mistake is assuming I have better angels at all.
-D.M.
Word Count: 41,430 (10 chapters).
Content Warnings: Alcohol, blood, bullying, confinement, cursing, death of a parent, grief, injury/injury detail, medical trauma, murder, panic attacks/disorders, physical abuse, sexual content, suicide attempt, suicide, suicidal thoughts, torture, toxic relationship, and vomit.
Spice Modifications: None. This is an epistolary fanfiction, so there is not on-page sexual scenes. There may be sexual comments made in their letters, but it wasn’t spicy enough that I mentioned it in my review. So, proceed with caution, but I think you’ll be okay.
My Favorite Quote: “You give me these small chances to feel like a person whose thoughts matter to somebody.”
Recommended for Fans of: Mental health representation, slow healing, dark fics, trauma handled beautifully, and epistolary stories.
Sequels: Indelible Ink and A Small Drop of Ink.
Your Lonely Calls to Me by Senlinyu

Less than a year post-war, trainee healer Hermione Granger visits Azkaban to perform volunteer medical check-ups and finds something she isn’t intended to see, and has no choice but to do something about it.
Word Count: 3,085 (oneshot).
Content Warnings: Bullying, physical abuse, and torture.
Spice Modifications: None.
My Favorite Quote: “She wasn’t doing it because she thought it would make them friends. She was doing it because someone needed to and she’d been the only person who’d been willing to.”
Recommended for Fans of: Angst, hurt/comfort, post-war fics, non-romantic fics, and trauma/healing.
Unexpected Understandings by Summerwinds_06
Since the start of their sixth year, Harry swears by his life that Draco Malfoy has become a Death Eater. So when Katie Bell, having been fully recovered, returns to the Great Hall one afternoon, Harry is there ready for an interrogation and sure that the blond wizard is to blame. But what happens when Hermione Granger finally intervenes?
Instead of Harry, Hermione insists she’ll get the answers they need and follows Malfoy to one of the bathrooms to prove to Harry and herself that Malfoy is not what they suspect him to be. But when she arrives, she is shocked to find – not a cold-hearted Death Eater – but a broken, desperate boy…
(Or, in simpler terms, Hermione finds Draco in the boys lavatory in 6th year instead of Harry)
Word Count: 11,905 (oneshot).
Content Warnings: Panic attacks/disorders. There may be others, but this is the only one I can remember.
Spice Modifications: None.
My Favorite Quote: “But you may just find that there are people who would be willing to listen, or just sit beside you if you need it.”
Recommended for Fans of: Enemies-to-friends, hurt/comfort, panic attack representation, Broken Draco, and alternate scene fics.
A Bit of Solace by Summerwinds_06
Draco always knew Ronald Weasley was a moron. He considered him to sometimes be dumber than a troll, or at least stupid enough to get one on his exams. The blonde didn’t realize how much of an idiot he really was, though, until he found a bushy-haired Gryffindor sitting in an alcove by herself, trying to control the tears streaming down her face…
(Or, in simpler terms, Draco finds Hermione after Ron and Lavender kissed in their sixth year)
Word Count: 4,814 (oneshot).
Content Warnings: None that I can remember.
Spice Modifications: None.
My Favorite Quote: “Who broke your heart, Granger?”
Recommended for Fans of: Soft Draco, Sad Hermione, fluff, hurt/comfort, and alternate scene fics.
Always Her by athingofbeauty
He was awakened by the sounds of his own screams.
It wasn’t new. Had been happening for years, in fact. But what was new, and still fairly novel, was the comforting sensation of small hands brushing the hair from his eyes, stroking his back and bringing a glass of water to his lips.
“Was it her again?” Hermione softly asked, and he nodded on a shaking inhale.
“Always is.”
Word Count: 2,604 (oneshot).
Content Warnings: Nightmares, PTSD, torture, and self-loathing.
Spice Modifications: None.
My Favorite Quote: “She did succeed in breaking me that day. But she didn’t destroy me.”
Recommended for Fans of: Slowly learning to heal, hurt/comfort, post-war fics, and trauma representation that’s handled well.
Breathe/Stay by CaityBell
No synopsis is provided on AO3, but I promise you won’t regret reading this one.
Word Count: 2,889 (oneshot).
Content Warnings: Blood, cursing, injury/injury detail, medical content, medical trauma, sexual content (use of the f-word to allude to sex), violence, war.
Spice Modifications: None.
My Favorite Quote: It’s a spoiler, so I’m not including it here. That being said, it’s the last line of dialogue in the story.
Recommended for Fans of: Post-war fics, hurt/comfort, lots of angst, ambigious endings, and feral Draco.
