Dust Tour Stop #7 // An Interview with Kara Swanson

Hello, Lost Boys and Girls! *waves from the Mermaid Lagoon* My name is Bree Dawn and today I have an exciting post for you, featuring an interview with Kara Swanson, author of the Peter Pan retelling/sequel, Dust. It comes out on July 21, 2020 and if you’re interested in pre-ordering it (which you totally should), you can do that right here!

Now, allow me to introduce you to the pixie girl herself, Kara Swanson. *sprinkles pixie dust everywhere*

Interview with Kara Swanson

Me: When did you know you wanted to be an author?

Kara: When I finished my first full length project and realized I could write a whole novel, and really loved it!

Me: Who’s your favorite character in Dust & The Girl Who Could See?

Kara: Hard to say! Fern and Claire are both very emotionally intelligent, resilient characters who fight for the people they love, and I love them for that. But Peter and Tristan are quirky, snarky male leads that I also love. So…all of them? XD

Me: Will you ever write a sequel for The Girl Who Could See or will it forever remain a stand-alone?

Kara: I’m not sure! I’ve tossed around the idea, but I don’t have any concrete concepts for what the sequel would revolve around, so probably not unless I stumbled upon the right plot. 🙂 You never know, though!

Me: How long did it take you to write Dust?

Kara: Hmmm…four months, maybe?

Me: Have you always wanted to be both an indie and traditionally published author? What made you choose one versus the other for your books?

Kara: Choosing to Indie Publish The Girl Who Could See was really to help me learn and grow as a writer and gain that experience. I’ve always wanted to publish traditionally as I love having a publishing team at my back 🙂

Me: How do you want readers to feel after finishing Dust?

Kara: A little hopeful, and a little bittersweet, and pretty…happy they got to take the ride 🙂 It is a bit of a cliffhanger to set up Shadow, book two!

Me: I love that so much. That’s always a really nice feeling to leave readers with, so now I’m even MORE excited to read this fairytale retelling. However, unfortunately, that’s all of my questions. Thank you so much for letting me interview you, Kara!

Scavenger Hunt Keyword

I had so much fun interviewing Kara that I almost forgot to remind you lovelies that we have to defeat Hook and his crew, and we need YOUR help. Every post in the blog tour has a clue, and once you collect all 36 clues and stitch them together to form a passage, you’ll find the treasure. The first Lost Boy or Girl to finish the scavenger hunt will win a beloved treasure chest filled with an autographed Advanced Reader Copy of Dust with exclusive notes from Kara in the margins, bookmarks, print of Dust art, Peter + Clare Character cards, and a signed bookplate! However, if you aren’t the first person to finish, don’t you worry, darling. Kara and the gang have made sure that you’ll still win some epic treasure too. In fact, you will receive everything mentioned above, minus the exclusive Dust ARC. So without any further explanation, your keyword for this stop is: to
