dear little writer

 your story matters.
***
i know you don't believe me,

but i need you to have some faith.

i know you don't trust yourself

so trust me...

just until you've found your wings

or maybe a voice.
***
i know you don't think you're gonna make it,

but somewhere below the hastily threaded stitches

and angry scarlet letters,

we both know that was never the reason.

why do you suffer???
****
i know you don't see the point

but two months ago you were okay with the blind spot

so what changed, little dove?
***
i know you don't have the energy

or the will

or the creativity

or the motivation

or the time

or the brainpower

or the the the—
***
i know you don't want to admit it

but you're full of excuses distractions self-loathing.

pinterest—fancy penmanship

tumblr—stupid writing memes

instagram—girls who are better in all the right ways

twitter—hate comments of self-destroying vulgarity

facebook—follow, like, share, comment, repeat

"it's brand building..." you whisper.

"it's decimating," i scream.

"mocking your disorganization

and defeating you with a grin."
***
i know you don't think it could be this simple.

you couldn't possibly sit down, ink quill in hand

and write.
***
i know you don't believe me

but it's time to take off satan's headphones.

don't let him reverberate inside your pretty little mind

for another second.

you are far too precious.
***
i know you don't trust yourself.

but that's because you've let him steal the pages.
***
i know you don't think you're gonna make it

but deep down we both know

we've let him spill bloody, crusty ink

over God's masterful calligraphy.

Bree Dawn is a voracious book dragon who believes in the power of stories. As a young girl, she always begged her parents to let her read “one more chapter” before bedtime. As an adult, she uses this same passion to craft dark stories with hopeful undertones for young adults who seek a glimmer of light in this dark world. Bree is currently working on her dystopian fantasy novel while consuming as many stories as possible.
